Artist's Notes
(Wildlife Paintings, American Wildlife, Original Oil Painting )
The subject of this original oil painting is the Black Crowned Night Heron. Black-crowned Night Herons are small, stocky, short-legged herons that are handsomely attired in a tri-colour plumage of black, gray and white, with two long plumes on the nape.
The Night Heron is the Rodney Dangerfield of the Heron family. Its behavior as an egg thief and baby killer has made him unpopular with other herons to the extent that they will attack him on sight. Perhaps it is the harassment from other birds that force the Black Crowned Night Herons to venture out mainly at night.
The original oil painting shown above has been sold, but is it available as a Giclee on Canvas.
