Artist's Notes
(Wildlife Paintings, American Wildlife, Original Oil Painting )
The subject of this original oil painting is the Florida Sandhill Crane. The Florida Sandhill Crane is a subspecies the North American Sandhill Crane. Florida Sandhill Cranes are year round residents where as the North American Sandhill Cranes will migrate here for the winter. I particularly love Sandhill Cranes. The interaction among Sandhill Cranes is most intriguing. Sandhill Cranes mate for life. What is particularly interesting is that if a male should die another male will not only take his place but also adopt the offspring.
The oil painting shown above depicts the birds in a wild setting, but these large birds can be found in both rural and urban areas. In Port St. Lucie it is not uncommon to have them standing in the road blocking traffic. They seem to consider themselves something special. Well, they are.
The original oil painting shown above is also available as a Giclee on Canvas.
