The subject of this original oil painting is the iguana lizard. The Green Iguana or Common Iguana is a large, arboreal herbivorous species of lizard native to Central and South America. Although not native to Florida, there were a number of they resident in Port St. Lucie up to just a few months ago.

 

The model for the oil painting above spent much of the summer sunning himself on our dock. I fear that the recent cold weather may have killed him off.
